I’m thrilled to announce the launch of my latest edited non-fiction title: Being a Digital MarketHer. This comprehensive guide, focused on essential marketing and business strategies, represents everything that makes non-fiction editing both challenging and deeply rewarding.
If the goal of non-fiction is to educate and establish authority, then the editor’s job is to ensure that the message is delivered with maximum clarity and impact. My role in developmental editing for non-fiction centres on:
- Clarity of Concept: Ensuring every term is defined, every example is relevant, and complex strategies are broken down into actionable steps.
- Logical Flow: Structuring the chapters and sections so that the reader progresses logically, building knowledge step-by-step without getting lost or overwhelmed.
- Establishing Authority: Polishing the tone and presentation to ensure the author’s expertise is unquestionable, making the work a definitive resource.
A successful business book needs to function as a teaching tool. It must be easy to navigate and immediately useful. Luckily for me, when Sophie passed me her manuscript for “Being a Digital MarketHer”, I didn’t have to do much more than a line-edit! She is an incredibly experienced marketer, and strong writer, so my work was just to double-check what was already an incredibly strong book!
